Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai Co-Hosted the First Mifan Mama “Awaken Your Senses” Charity Gala Dinner
Participants included famous corporate sponsors, such as Coca-Cola, Topson Downs, Pudao Wine, Deloitte and Bonito Group Holding Limited, together with more than 260 celebrities and expats. The event also launched the “Love Me Flying Piggy Bank”, which is a great way to introduce children to the concept of saving and giving to charity – specifically to Mifan Mama. The design was inspired by the “Flying Pig” inflatable artwork named “Love Me” at the K11 shopping mall in Hong Kong. Choi Jeong Hwa, a world-renowned South Korean artist, designed the piggy bank.
On behalf of Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai, General Manager Henk said, “We care about society, we care about the people here and every time I visit the children, I always feel compassion for looking after those who are less fortune than us in society.”
“Mifan Mama is thankful for the community and Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai’s full support in our successful event. We will continue to do what Mifan Mama does. We’ll pay for impoverished young people to go to school and constantly fund Shing Star to help blind children to achieve their full potential,” said Julie Garrett, operations manager of Mifan Mama.
Thanks to generous donations from the philanthropists and corporate sponsors, more than 25 precious items were auctioned, including luxurious handbags, custom-designed 2.8 carat jewellery designed by Martha’s Farfan and a Nike basketball signed by NBA star players Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Carmelo Anthony. The most eye-catching item was definitely the bronze sculpture titled “Endless” by Wu Ching Ju, which bid at USD 100,000 that night. Her stunning sculptures can be seen throughout Shanghai, including the “Fountain of Blessing” with three mythological figures as the centrepiece, the sculpture of Xintiandi and “Terra Nature”, her 12 m (39.4 ft) sculpture placed in Lujiazui Central Park, Pudong.
