29 October 2014 – The welcome party for Master Robert Chen Cheng-Hsiung’s 60-year retrospective exhibition, a co-hosted event with Shanghai Daily and Panaroma Art, was held in the Executive Lounge of Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai. More than 100 celebrities from the finance industry, chamber members and art collectors attended the welcome party to give their best wishes. The retrospective exhibition featuring paintings created by Chen from 1953-2013 opened at the China Art Museum. More than 70 artistic works were shown over several weeks. Master Chen shared his heart’s journey and 60-year professional career with ICS reporters to show how abstract paintings reveal the invisible inner world to the visible external world.
Mr Henk Meyknecht, general manager of Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai, shared a speech with the guests: “Kempinski is committed to the long-standing European tradition that preserves and maintains a civilised society through arts and culture. Art and culture are necessities as they breed hope and change communities and they transcend cultures and countries. This is also the slogan of Kempinski’s Young Artist Programme. Kempinski boosts young artists’ efforts through funding, promotion and professional mentoring by experts, fostering their talent and furthering their inspirations.”
Master Chen is known as the “Godfather of Taiwanese Abstract Painting” and the “Colour Magician”. He learned to sketch from famous expressionist painter Li Shiqiao when he was 17-years-old and he is a pioneer of modern abstract painting. Now, Master Chen is board chairman of the Taiwan Modern Painting Academy, a lifetime academician of the Britain Royal Art Academy and an emeritus board chairman of Chinese traditional culture for the Inheritance Foundation of America.
