Local Customs

Nay Pyi Taw is the new capital of The Republic of the Union of Myanmar located at the geographic center of the country, which is divided into 14 states.

Much of the country lies between the tropic of Cancer and the Equator, in the monsoon region of Asia. The temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius in average, where April to June is the summer, July and August the raining season and November to February the most comfortable time to travel with temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius.

The currency is the Myanmar Kyat. The exchange rate at the hotel is around MMK 1,250 for 1 USD. You will be able to pay with USD at some places, but only if they the notes look new! It is highly recommended to travel around with local currency in order to avoid any bad surprises.

Language is Myanmar.

The national outfit is made of a "longyi" and a top (white shirt for men and colorful top for women). The longyi is a cloth which is often sewn into a cylindrical shape. It is worn around the waist, running to the feet.
