Munich, 22. May, 2018 – Unique and world-renowned: The Maximilianstraße is one of Munich’s most famous addresses. Not only because of the numerous luxury boutiques that flank this magnificent boulevard but also because of the glamorous history linked to this extraordinary piece of architectural art. Due to its 160th anniversary, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich will offer guided tours from July until the end of the year to take you through the glorious past of this remarkable street.
It was the rebellion of a son against his father that was the foundation of the development of the Maximilianstraße. King Ludwig I of Bavaria built a boulevard in his own honour in his chosen city of residence. His son and royal successor, Maximilian II, then wanted to distinguish himself against his overpowering father with a boulevard which would surpass his father’s Ludwigstraße in its beauty. That is why Maximilian II, in 1851, called for bids from Bavaria’s architects to design a boulevard that would rival the most elegant streets of Paris, Rome, and London. Architect Friedrich Bürklein designed a 1,200 m long urban piece of art, starting from the royal residence, mixing renaissance and neo-gothic styles as was fashionable at that time. Even today, the final result still attracts tens of thousands of visitors daily. And amidst it all: the ‘most elegant hotel in the city’, originally opened on the 25th of July, 1858 under the name the ‘Hotel zu den vier Jahreszeiten’.

Due to its 160th anniversary, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich offers visitors, who would like to discover the Maximilianstraße and its stately buildings from a culture-historical perspective, a two-hour long journey. The tour will be guided by an experienced art historian, who will bring the dazzling past of the Maximilianstraße to life with flair. Starting point is the Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich. At the hotel itself, guests will visit the most beautiful historical corners of the property, which – in parts – are usually not accessible to the public, before continuing to explore the rest of the Maximilianstraße with the State Opera House, Maximilianeum and many other attractive gems.
Tickets cost EUR 49 per person and include a small culinary surprise and a glass of champagne. Pre-booking is required:
