Local Information
One of the Most Romantic Towns in Istria

Rovinj was declared a cultural monument in 1963. Together with Poreč and Pula, this distinctive jewel of the Istrian coast illustrates the best example of local urban architecture.

A walk through the streets of Rovinj is one of the most romantic things Istria has to offer. The old town is situated on a hilly little peninsula as a testimony of past times and the great skills of local builders. Walking up Grisia Street you will pass by numerous galleries and craft workshops, before reaching the church St. Euphemia, the patron of Rovinj. The church was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Its 60 metres high bell tower has a Baroque statue of the saint in bronze. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view over tiled rooftops and the beautiful archipelago of Rovinj. Have a look at the local harbors and numerous the batana boats that are under UNESCO protection. The old tradition of fishing is still preserved here. If you want to learn more about Rovinj and its people, we recommend a visit to the interesting and interactive House of Batana as well as the town museum.
