Top Five… European Cities in Springtime

Longer days, bluer skies, and the feeling that everything is coming back to life again - there are many reasons to love spring, but having a reason to love the outdoors again is a common theme across them all! There are few better places to enjoy an al fresco spring than in the many cities of Europe.

From the UK to Switzerland, there are a whole host of beautiful European cities that are bursting into life once more now that winter is on the way out - here you will find our favourite locations, and the perfect springtime activities to pursue within them.

Enigmatic Berlin

Berlin is known for a number of reasons: history, art, and a growing music scene to name a few. Though cooler climes do little to slow Berlin's nightlife, the longer daylight hours mean that there is much more time to explore the beautiful city centre, and enjoy the parties and abundance of culture that spills out onto the streets.

Not only does this light afford you the chance to see some of Berlin's exquisite architecture, it means that the city is altogether leafier to walk around, a calendar of street fairs and festivals begins, and parks like Tiergarten become especially beautiful. Don't forget - both the Hotel Adlon Kempinski and the Kempinski Hotel Bristol ready to welcome you on your next visit to Berlin!

Beautiful Budapest

Spring is taken seriously in the Hungarian capital. Sitting at the heart of the country, Budapest is famous for its love of spring. Once the warmer April air arrives, locals and visitors alike can be seen mingling in the city's parks, and enjoying the abundance of outdoor cafes.

Along with this relaxed spring dining culture, Budapest is also home to the two-week long Spring Festival! The festival encompasses a wide array of music-based performances - from classical and operatic to jazz and world music - and a range of theatre performances too. Known locally as the Budapesti Tavaszi Fesztival, the Budapest Spring Festival takes place from April 8th to 24th, with many venues just a short distance away from the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus.

Blossoming Geneva

Spring sees the end of Switzerland's skiing season but, while the mountains may be winding down, life in the cities is just coming out of hibernation. Once the ski resorts close around mid-April to mid-May, the lake resorts come into their own, with blossoming foliage seemingly everywhere!

Enjoy the buzzing city of Geneva while staying at the Grand Hotel Kempinski, but be sure to take a trip out to more rural parts of Lake Geneva to really experience springtime in Switzerland.

Elegant Venice

Venice is stunning all year round but, come spring, you can combine the architecture and iconic canals with a city in bloom - both visually and culturally. What's more, many visitors wait until summer to explore Venice, which means the city is much quieter in these delightful early months - ideal if you are looking to explore somewhere a little more peaceful!

From April, you will find new exhibitions opening at many of the city's prestigious museums and galleries, as well as Festa di San Marco, the Festival of St Mark - Venice's patron saint (on April 25th). Arrive in May and June, and you will begin to see the canals come to life with rowing competitions too! For a taste of spring in charming Venice, you are more than welcome at San Clemente Palace Kempinski.

Quaint London

England's iconic capital is one of the most park-centric cities in Europe, which - along with its many sightseeing locations - has many green spaces right in the heart of the city.

Whether you opt to explore Hyde Park by foot, hire a Boris Bike to explore Regent's Park, or want to feel like you are in the rural countryside in Richmond Park, leaves, flowers and lush grasses all return in mid-March. Of course, being in Great Britain, there is no telling what the weather might do - but spring certainly brings with it the idea of better weather, if not a promise!
