From the Spree to the Elbe

New Executive Chef in the five-star-superior Hotel Atlantic Kempinski Hamburg.

Hamburg, 24 July 2015. André Trojanowski is with immediate effect responsible of the kitchens in the hanseatic city of Hamburg’s grand hotel. The 35-year-old comes to Hamburg’s traditional hotel from the Park Hotel Bremen where he held the same position. Born in Berlin, he is taking on the 37-strong team of chefs from Mario Kretschmer who, after nine years at the Atlantic, has decided to set himself a new challenge.


The decision to come to Hamburg was an easy one for the passionate basketball player, not simply because of Hamburg’s promising Olympic bid. “The chance to steer the Atlantic with its team into the future is simply too appealing.” In the exclusive hotel where James Bond left his mark in 1997 during the filming of Tomorrow Never Dies, the new Executive Chef wishes to delight the guests with a combination of classical and modern components. Of particular importance to the new Atlantic chef is the integration of regional elements. Atlantic guests can look forward to local, primarily organic produce supplied by gourmet stores such as Hamburg’s FrischeParadies. This will be cleverly combined with international influences demanded by a hotel with such an cosmopolitan history.

Numerous hotels with excellent culinary reputations, such as the Waldorf Astoria, the Ritz Carlton and the Palace in Berlin have savoured Trojanowski’s passion for experimenting. His experience will ensure that a long-lasting, creative and well throughout culinary concept will be in place in Hamburg for the discerning diners of his cuisine. Whether a vitalising breakfast overlooking the waters of the Alster, a light business lunch in the hotel’s Sommeratrium, tea in the hotel lobby or dinner or a snack in the world-famous Atlantic Bar, the family man has set the bar very high. “We will preserve the traditions and create new ones. That is the benchmark that has to be set in a hotel such as the Atlantic,” stated the creative and ambitious cook.

Trojanowski devotes special attention to the important meetings and events market as well as to providing a first-class catering service. Whether a small exclusive board meeting or a prestigious ball, such as the Hamburg Press Ball, the variety of his cuisine can only be mastered with an experienced team. Hence it is important for his colleagues to be continually encouraged and additionally trained. “Today it is more important than ever to find, train and enthuse young, dynamic talent who will in future take on the responsibilities in the catering sector.” Ensuring this happens is one task that the new Executive Chef readily undertakes.

The Hotel Atlantic Kempinski Hamburg was opened over a century ago as a traditional grand hotel for first-class passengers of world-famous luxury liners.
