The opinions of the Michelin and Gault Millau restaurant guides remain unchanged: two Michelin stars and 18 Gault Millau points for the Villa Rothschild Restaurant in Königstein im Taunus
Königstein im Taunus, 12.11.2015. The Villa Rothschild Restaurant in the Villa Rothschild Kempinski with its head chef Christian Eckhardt and restaurant manager Benjamin Birk continues to rank among the elite of German restaurants. With two out of a possible three stars from the Michelin Guide and 18 out of a possible 20 points from Gault Millau, the Rothschild team were able to yet again convince and prove their class to the gourmet guides’ testers.
With these latest evaluations from the gourmet critics, the Rothschild team have confirmed the somewhat unexpected praise from last year. To some degree one can compare the past two years in the Villa Rothschild Restaurant with two seasons in the German Bundesliga. In the first year as a ‘rookie’ – exactly what Christian Eckhardt was in his position as head chef – one plays with a totally free spirit. There are no expectations and the success has a playful tone to it. In the second year the conditions are quite different. The game may be the same but then on the other hand it isn’t – all very similar to the experiences of Christian Eckhardt and his team: 2014 was a surprise, 2015 an expectation. And if not from others then at least from ourselves, explained Christian Eckhardt.
“We’re absolutely delighted that the assessments of both the Michelin Guide and Gault Millau have remained unchanged. The team has had to endure a lot of hard work but we have always stressed that quality and consistency must accompany one another,” added the head chef. The fact that this is the case is undisputed among the restaurant testers. In view of the Rothschild cuisine, the Gault Millau spoke about “irresistible consistencies of flavour”, “gentle cooking on the verge of perfection” and graded it with “excellent”.
But as in football, as soon as one match is over plans for the next game begin, and so is the case in the Villa Rothschild Restaurant. Eckhardt’s opposite number in service, restaurant manager Benjamin Birk, puts it in a nutshell: “We will of course celebrate the awards. But it’s the diners in our restaurant upon whom our main focus lies – the same for the restaurant critics. If they are happy, we are happy too. Thankfully we won’t have to wait until next November and the new ratings before the next diners come. They are already here. Hence relaxing is not on the agenda!”
