25th Anniversary of German Unification: Federal President Gauck visits the Villa Rothschild Kempinski
Königstein im Taunus, 2 October 2015. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of German Unification the state of Hesse hosted a grand celebration from 2-4 October. During this time the Hotel Villa Rothschild Kempinski with its wealth of history also entered the spotlight as it was here that State Premier Volker Bouffier welcomed Federal President Joachim Gauck and other notable politicians. President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert was also in attendance.
The ‘House of the German States’, the ‘Cradle of the Federal Republic’, the ‘Place of Freedom and Democracy in Germany’ – the smallest Kempinski hotel in the world has a special place in German history and has received many bynames as a result. A good enough reason therefore for the State Chancellery of Hesse to choose the former summer residence of the Rothschild family as the venue for the celebrations. In the historic rooms where once meetings and conferences of the Parliamentary Council and the West German state premiers were held to draft the initial formulation of the German constitution, another chapter in German history was written with the visit of the Federal President.
The aim of the prestigious 5-star-superior hotel is, however, to take care of its distinguished guests. Hence Christian Eckhardt, Head Chef of the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Villa Rothschild, the state of Hesse’s highest ranking restaurant, took care of the culinary duties for the banquet while Restaurant Manager Benjamin Birk and his team focused on the service.
The menu, incidentally, featured regional specialities: local lamb’s lettuce with forest mushrooms, saddle of Taunus venison, and homemade fruit tart with pickled plums.
