Deira, in northern Dubai, is home to a number of "souqs" or "souks" (traditional Arab markets), including the Covered Souk, the Gold Souk and the fragrant Spice Souk.
The Gold Souq is a staple of most traditional markets in the Middle East. The Gold Souq in Deira is one of the largest retail gold markets in the world, gathering hundreds of gold vendors in one area to offer row upon row of ingots and intricate gold jewellery at bargain prices. The street-front shops hide narrow alleys of smaller stores with glittering window displays, so take some time to venture through the souq.
A little bit further from the Gold Souq, embark on a journey of a thousand scents at the Spice Souq, where heady Arabic seasonings are sold out of open sacks.
Looking for the perfect souvenir? Head to the Covered Souq, where you will be sure to find a sensational item to bring home to your family and friends, among other household goods and children's toys...
