Leshan Giant Buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest Buddha in China, reaching 71 m (232.9 ft), with a 14.7m (48.2 ft) large head and 24 m (78.7 ft) long shoulders.

The Buddha’s ears are 6.7 m (22 ft) long and a picnic could be held on the huge nails of his toes, which are 1.5 m (4.9 ft) long. The carving project first started in 713, led by a Buddhist monk called Haitong, who hoped that the Buddha’s presence would subdue the swift currents and protect the boatmen.
