Built in 256 BC under the leadership of Libing, the magistrate of the Shu Prefecture of the Qin State, Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a masterpiece of the Chinese nation.
As a dam-less irrigation system, the dam consists of three major parts: Fish-Mouth Leeve, Flying-Sand Weir and Bottle-Neck Channel. Interacting with each other, the three parts of this project have effectively solved the problems or irrigation, flood discharge, and sand drainage by utilising mountain-pass landform and the regularity of water flow in the river bend, which formed an automatic irrigation system. This project turned the Chengdu plain into the "Land of Abundance", and directly promoted the unification of the Qin Dynasty, the first centralised dynasty in Chinese history.
