Kempinski Women Learn to Pack a Punch for International Women’s Day
Baie Lazare, Seychelles, March 2018 – This International Women’s Day the team at Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare pulled out all the stops to show their appreciation for the women in their working lives. A special lunch was laid out in the staff canteen, at which each female colleague received a rose and thoughtful gift as a token of appreciation. This was followed by an informative self-defence demonstration, led by Olympic Taekwondo contender Martin Cedras.
Cedras, who represented Seychelles in the 2015 World Taekwondo Championships and is an employee at the hotel, was delighted to have the opportunity to impart some of his knowledge and expertise to his female co-workers. “Martial arts may not be for everyone – but feeling safe and powerful and capable of defending yourself definitely is,” said Cedras. “I have the pleasure of working with so many accomplished women. I hope that they will never have to use the skills I taught them today, but I have no doubt that, if the situation required it, they would be able to protect themselves and their loved ones.”
With a strong focus on training and career development at the core of Kempinski’s operational ethos, this self-defence demonstration presented an excellent opportunity to both empower and encourage Kempinski’s female team-members to take charge of their well-being, while learning new skills and gaining confidence. Working closely with the hotel’s HR and Training departments, Cedras is looking forward to making these classes a regular and accessible resource for employees of the luxury Baie Lazare hotel.
