Kempinski Seychelles Resort Supports Au Cap Senior Citizens

June 2018 Last weekend a team of volunteers from Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare visited Au Cap Home for the Elderly to offer their assistance for the upkeep of this facility and to share the news that they have donated a brand-new - and badly needed oven to the home's kitchen.

The team was very well-received by the elderly residents, who soon put their younger visitors to work in the garden. The volunteers did their bit to brighten the environment by trimming the lawn and tending to the home’s impressive vegetable garden. In the kitchen, hotel chefs were taught a thing or two about traditional Creole cooking from some enthusiastic members of the home, while they laid out the three-course lunch they had prepared for the visit.

Kempinski Seychelles Resort’s executive chef, Hamzeh Abu El-Foul, used all of his charm to try to get some of the residents to reveal their secret family recipes. “I thought I knew a lot about Creole cuisine,” said Abu El-Foul, who arrived in Seychelles 18 months ago, “but after speaking with some of these women, I realise I still have a lot to learn. I can’t wait to incorporate some of the techniques they have shared with me today into our kitchen to bring some added authentic Creole flavour to our cuisine.”

The luxury resort’s human resources manager, Cheryl Marie, co-ordinated the visit for the team of 11 volunteers and was very pleased with the results of the afternoon.

“We really wanted to reach out and show our support for some of the elderly members of our society,” said Marie. “After all, they played a significant role in shaping Seychelles into the society it is today.”

The home’s administrator was thrilled with the support offered and looks forward to future collaborations with the hotel and the delivery of their new oven. Au Cap Home for the Elderly is currently home to 17 senior residents and is managed by a team of dedicated staff, who were also invited to enjoy the lavish lunch laid out by the hotel volunteers.

Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare has big plans to “give back” in 2018, having already organised a team blood drive, women’s self-defence classes and a sponsored lunch for students at Seychelles’ Tourism Academy earlier this year. They continue to support community engagement initiatives, including the sponsorship of a crucial eye surgery for a local musician and future plans to visit similar community institutions.
