While sailing along the rivers and canals of St Petersburg, the city is seen as Peter the Great intended. When Peter founded the city in 1703, he was not looking for a new capital city – that idea came later – he was looking for somewhere to anchor his brand new fleet. And when Peter invited yet more foreigners to build a city out of nothing, he thought most of all about how he wanted St Petersburg to look from a boat; it is completely by design that the most beautiful streets in the city are on the waterways along the Neva, Fontanka, Moika, Griboyedov, Kryukov…
The Kempinski Hotel Moika 22 boat, the “Sunne in Splendour” is an elegant vessel that takes its name from the eponymous novel by Sharon Kay Penman, about the English Wars of the Roses.
The “Sunne in Splendour” is rather splendid: 8 people in comfort, blankets, refreshments, light snacks. Guests can ask the captain to set a course wherever the fancy takes them. It’s possible at any time – morning, afternoon or late at night; and inquisitive explorers can have a good look at absolutely anything they like, just ask the captain to moor the vessel at any permitted docking place.
There is a variety of boat tours which can be offered to the clients. Standard tour lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. Guests are taken along the city’s most famous waterways, and the highlights of the city’s architectural treasures are seen for sure, such as the Peter and Paul Fortress, St Isaacs Cathedral, Hermitage Museum (formerly the Winter Palace) and many more.
Custom Tour that takes fans of water excursions through the rivers and canals of the city centre, and on to the fashionable islands of Krestovski and Kamenniy, passing the Yelagin Palace, and a brief turn on the Gulf of Finland. The boat may go to the Mariinsky Theatre
dock; a course can be charted for the Yusupov Palace, guests can explore Dostoevsky’s St Petersburg; and even go straight to Peterhof, following the route of Peter the Great.
During the Afternoon tea Tour The “Sunne in Splendour” will provide guests with a guided tour of the city’s most iconic treasures – Church on the Blood, Winter Canal and Hermitage, St Isaac’s – and on the return afternoon tea in our Tea Room is offered.
With evening Champagne Tours which start late in the afternoon and last until the sunset, one can sit back, relax, and soak up all that wonderful architecture and atmosphere while enjoying a glass of chilled fine Champagne.
Midnight Bridges Tours are so utterly amazing, that many people in St Petersburg do it night after night! The opening of the bridges all along the Neva River is a wonderful thing. A flotilla of pleasure boats is bobbing up and down; and the boat from the Kempinski Hotel Moika 22 will show the bridges in their best.
