Earth Hour 2014

PRESSEMITTEILUNGEN

From global initiative to local commitment to celebrate the Earth Hour 2014

Bangkok, 18 March 2014 – Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok will take part in Earth Hour, a worldwide initiative for energy conservation organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Highlighted activities at the hotel will include an introduction of green-inspired food and drink at its restaurants.

On Saturday, 29 March 2014, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (Bangkok time), the hotel will dim and switch off 6,000 light bulbs from a total of 12,000 installed across its public areas and restaurants. Some will even be replaced with lighted beeswax candles. During the evening, the hotel will also introduce a special menu featuring eco-friendly dishes and drinks including beetroot ravioli and Love the Earth cocktail, all made without the use electric power and only available on the evening of 29 March 2014.

“I created beetroot ravioli without using gas or electricity,” said Giancarlo Caffaro, a head chef at Niche, a new all-day dining restaurant and bar. “Beetroot is found under the earth and people have been eating it since ancient times without using gas. I slice the beetroot into thin pieces and marinated them in balsamic vinegar. I then used ricotta cheese to stuff between the prepared beetroot slices and served it as ravioli.” The same is true for the Love the Earth cocktail, which is a green-inspired drink specially created by human powered shaking.

Beetroot ravioli is priced at THB 450 and is available exclusively at Niche. Love the Earth, a vodka-based cocktail with melon, lime, and pineapple juice is priced at THB 350 and a non-alcohol based mocktail version is priced at THB 250. Both versions will be available at Niche and Hanuman Bar.

Plan to arrive early for a complimentary drink which will be served in the lobby. Hanuman Goes Green, the hotel’s green mascot for energy savings and environment protection, will also be there to welcome you for this special celebration of Earth Hour.
