5th September 2013 – A new gourmet experience now awaits guests at Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai with the launch of the hotel’s new afternoon tea in partnership with Villeroy & Boch. An appetising selection of canapés, berliners and scones is served daily from 2 – 5pm in the Lobby Lounge. The afternoon selection includes Roasted Tomato Confit with Focaccia, Grilled Tuna Cube with Ponzu Glee and Foie Gras with Chutney served on exquisite Villeroy & Boch porcelain - Modern Grace Collection. Crafted from extraordinarily thin bone china, the set exudes elegance through simple designs of geometric shapes.
The patisserie team at Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai combines its own distinctive afternoon tea presentation with tradition to introduce British inspired scones with fruit, chocolate and green tea flavours. Pastry Chef Ming (Johnson) Gao complements the selection with his own creation of homemade jams made from fresh seasonal fruits.
Completing the afternoon tea experience are a selection of teas from the premium Ronnefeldt brand which blends high-grade tea leaves from the world’s best tea growing regions. Founded in Germany in 1823, Ronnefeldt teas are produced using distinctively traditional methods. The freshly plucked tea-leaves are carefully processed by hand, which requires more time and incredible craftsmanship in order to pass the original aroma on to the finished product.
The afternoon high tea at Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai is designed specially by Michelin star-winning Executive Chef Mattias Roock and Pastry Chef Johnson. Chef Roock formerly worked at the Michelin-starred, Gordon Ramsay-affiliated restaurant Claridge’s in London as Chef de Partie and has further earned one Michelin star and 17 Gault Millau points for restaurant Cà d'Oro as the Executive Chef of Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains.
