As an art form, the show has its roots in folk fetes, when dances were first performed by people as part of rituals of prayer for a good harvest or a better life. Over thousands of years, the dances developed from a few simple postures or gestures to become delicate and artistic reaching a peak during the Tang Dynasty. The show presented today is a recreation of a traditional entertainment attributable to a great variety of historical records and relics and the Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show.  Its  comprehensive form of art being lost in admiration promptly came into the sight of the audiences.

The Marathon of Xian City wall features three events, namely the 5km, 13.7km and half-marathon races. Thousands of runners from 40 countries and regions are all interested in taking part in the competition to show its prowess in marathon.  The race participants included the city residents and the foreign tourists, experts and students in different ages starting from eight to eighty. China's Olympic champions have also joined the start of the run.

It would be held on first Saturday of November every year.
