Sébastien Mariette, Kempinski Hotels Yixing and Wuxi, China wins award for Best General Manager in the Luxury Category
14th Annual Worldwide Hospitality Awards by MKG Group recognizes outstanding achievements in the Hotel Industry
Geneva, 14 November 2014: At the 14th Worldwide Hospitality Awards ceremony, Sébastien Mariette received the trophy for the best General Manager in the luxury category. The French hotelier directs Kempinski Hotel Wuxi & Kempinski Hotel Yixing in China.
More than 850 participants attended this years Worldwide Hospitality Awards ceremony in Paris presided over by Stephen P. Joyce, President & CEO of Choice Hotels, and Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Steigenberger Group. For the 14th consecutive year, MKG Group has put under the spotlights the initiatives undertaken by groups, brands, and independents to develop the international hotel industry, by organizing the now-essential Worldwide Hospitality Awards. From more than a hundred projects in 14 categories, only 38 finalists and honorees remained after an online vote at Hospitality ON and the deliberation of two expert juries, of hoteliers and non-hoteliers. General Managers were judged in the categories of Managerial ability, Business performance, Human resources skills, Involvement in community life, Professional recognition by peers and Implication in the local community.
At age 37, Sébastien Mariette has worked for Kempinski for six years and has climbed the ladder to the head of the group's two hotels in China: Kempinski Hotel Wuxi with 400 rooms and Kempinski Hotel Yixing with 446 rooms which opened in January 2013. He started his career with Kempinski in Eastern Europe, followed by appointments in Africa and China.
On receiving the award Mr Mariette commented: ‘It is an absolute honor to be considered for such an award by my colleagues in the industry. I am convinced that our employees are the most valuable assets of any 5-star establishment and I am proud to have recruited and developed many talented individuals within my teams – this award equally belongs to them.’
Sébastien Mariette began his career at Disneyland Resort Paris within different departments before obtaining his first General Manager position. He also worked for le Méridien in Thailand and the Lucien Barrière Group at La Baule.Go back
