Museums & Galleries
Vienna has more than 100 museums and uncounted galleries - important collections of world renown, as well as very small ones. This includes, among others, the Museums Quartier (Museum Quarter) near the Hofburg (imperial palace of the Habsburg empire), which offers not only renowned museums like the Leopold Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Kunsthalle, but also a vivid lifestyle.
Everybody Waltz - concerts, opera, theatre
Classical concerts, world-class opera performances, pop, rock and jazz, open air and the many concert halls ... there is nothing in music you won’t find in Vienna. The theatre scene offers an incredible diversity - and is not only characterized by big names such as the Burgtheater. Hardly a city offers such a wide range of cultural activities.
The best places to shop
In the historic centre around Kärntner Strasse, Graben and Kohlmarkt, you will find clusters of posh shops, jewellers and perfumeries. Vienna’s hippest shopping area is the Mariahilfer Strasse and the small alleys around it. Vienna is easily explored walking and every corner holds a new surprise.
Restaurants in Vienna
The Viennese restaurant culture is characterized by its famous coffee houses, the wine taverns (called “Heurigen” which means “wine of this year”), and the markets and, of course, the tasty, fantastic cuisine with the world’s best pastries, “Mehlspeisen”, that is. But Vienna also offers a fresh design-oriented scene, award-winning restaurants, small pubs called “Beisl” and a global cuisine.
