St Moritz, April 2014 - The worldwide task was to find a dish that guests love, everyone knows - a timeless dish with a connection to the destination. The choice was easy: everybody eats rösti in Switzerland – it is the traditional signature dish that is known all over the world.
Originally eaten by farmers for breakfast, over time it has become a dish for all to enjoy. It is believed that rösti is eaten only in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. It is portrayed as a stereotypical identifier of Germanic culture, as opposed to the Latin one. Axel Rüdlin, executive chef of the hotel adds, “the line separating the French and German speaking sides is jokingly called the Röstigraben, literally the "rösti ditch", and we are definitely located on the rösti side of Switzerland.”
Nowadays its popularity is unstoppable, you can find it in a smaller version as hash browns for breakfast, in ski huts and of course as the signature dish of Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains. The new trademark is served with your choice of: mountain cheese and two fried eggs from Grison free range chickens; Grison ham or in the glamorous St Moritz style with fresh black truffles.
