The Advice of the Concierge: Bulgaria Music Hall - The Kingdom of Acoustics
Today Mario presents Bulgaria Music Hall, the major centre for concerts of international and local performers, music competitions and festivals.
If you are a classic music fan and happen to visit Sofia, it is a must to visit Bulgaria Music Hall known as one of the places with the best acoustics on the Balkans. Designed by the famous Bulgarian architects, Stancho Belkovski and Ivan Danchov, the hall took two years to complete and was ready in 1937, the opening featuring a grand concert by the Academic symphony orchestra.
Initially there were 1470 seats, 2 balconies and boxes but during the Second World War bombing attacks the hall together with the organ and the two grand pianos were destroyed. An interesting fact is that the destroyed Sauer organ was the biggest one which has ever existed in Bulgaria with 4 manuals, 72 registers and 6000 pipes.
Currently Bulgaria Music Hall features a Big Hall seating 1087 people and a Chamber Hall for 205 people. The new organ by Schuke (Potsdam) has 3 manuals, 55 registers and 8 Setzer combinations and is the biggest one in the country nowadays.
By tradition, Bulgaria Music Hall will host the 14th European Music Festival (12 March - 12 June) - find the program here
