Charity initiatives

Christmas Wish Tree

This Christmas initiative is a joint hotel-guest activity in which hotel guests, visitors or staff can join in, picking up a wish from the Christmas tree in the lobby and buying the described present for a Bulgarian orphan. Upon completion of the gift collection, the presents are taken and distributed to the children.

"Say NO to tuberculosis."

Kempinski Sofia is the founder of a charity football tournament under the motto “Stop TB”. The tournament is held on International day against tuberculosis with the support of partners and sponsors. The funds raised are donated to clinics for lung diseases in Sofia.

Active social responsibility

Kempinski Sofia is part of the worldwide initiative of BE foundation, contributing actively to the fight against infectious diseases. The amount of BGN 2 is added to the room bill of the hotel guests, while the funds raised are used for the implementation of global and local health projects. "Supporting BE global initiatives is extremely important since this shows our active social responsibility towards the value of life and the improvement of life quality. On a local level, the funds raised can assist health projects and hence the community with one clear objective – to share knowledge and information and change people’s behaviour in order to detect the diseases at an earlier stage and facilitate treatment", says Gerd Ruge, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Zografski Sofia.

Earth Hour

Every year in March Kempinski Sofia supports the global Earth Hour initiative organised by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), by turning off the non-essential lights and raising awareness of the need to take action on climate change.

“Green Inspiration by Kempinski”

Through the new ‘Green Inspiration by Kempinski’ programme launched by Kempinski in 2012, the hotel works to expand its eco-friendly initiatives to protect the environment. The hotel focuses on improving the level of all energy consumption resources, including water, electricity and gas. It also works on recycling, sustainability and conservation practices at the hotel as well as on environmental awareness training for all staff.

Oak Tree

Kempinski Hotel Marinela has a green guest-awareness programme: the small Oak Tree left on the bed by the guest informs the housekeeping attendant to make up the bed with the existing linen, thus reducing the water for laundry and the associated waste water.

Kempinski Art Weeks

Kempinski Sofia is part of the Central European Kempinski initiative Kempinski Art Weeks. The purpose of the event series is to present local artists and their artwork highlighting the theme of the Remarkable European Flair. In 2013 the hotel General Manager, Gerd Ruge was awarded with one of the most prestigious Bulgarian awards, Golden Pen, for supporting culture and art.

Young Talents

The hotel supports young talents in all art spheres by providing platform for performance to young people and promoting their art, including fund-raising events for young talents’ future education.
