Executive Chef News

The Executive Chef of Kempinski Hotel Zografski Sofia Kristiyan Vassilev climbed up the highest mountain peak in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula, Mussala, rising at the height of 2925 m.

26.8.2010

Accompanied by his son Vassil (12), Kristiyan Vassilev started the ascent at dawn on August 25 and reached the summit around noon. At the top, dressed in a branded T-shirt and cap, he waved Kempinski Hotel Zografski flag and prepared various gourmet sandwiches. Naturally, a bottle of champagne crowned the appetizing food!

In this way Kristiyan combined two passions in his life – the culinary art and the climbing fever, both united by the thrill of obtaining a superb satisfaction of the spirit.

Mussala is situated in one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains, Rila mountain, about 80 km from Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. Its name means a place for prayers, most probably deriving from the incredibly serene and beautiful atmosphere of the place.

Kristiyan Vassilev has worked for Kempinski Hotel Zografski Sofia since the beginning of 2010. He started his career at the age of 20 and has acquired professional knowledge in a number of top hotels and restaurants. After joining Kempinski Hotel Zografski Sofia he has introduced new tantalizing menus with focus on French and Mediterranean cuisine which make the guests come back over and over again.
