    Portoroz is the most important tourist centre on the Slovenian coast. It is famous for being host to more than one hundred years of spa tradition, as well as its mild Mediterranean climate, the beautiful surrounding hills and the friendly, outgoing people. It is only a stone’s throw away from the medieval pearl, the town of Piran, and two of the greatest Slovene tourist attractions known throughout the world: the mysterious underground world of Postojna Cave and the beautiful cultural and historical monument that is the Lipica Stud Farm. The location is well known for its extraordinary cuisine based on local olive oil, wine and truffles. Come to experience remarkable wine tasting tours, olive oil tastings and truffle hunting.

    Explore Piran, Istria and beyond

    Life is made up of natural beauty and man-made masterpieces. Nature offers the Lipica Stud Farm (40km), where they have bred since 1580 the white Lipizzaner horses. There is also the dramatic Postojna Cave and Skocjan Caves (60km), which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Man offers the medieval town of Piran (3 km), and of course magnificent Venice (200 km).

In nearby Piran, searching in the old narrow streets for wonderful handmade arts and crafts is a pleasure in itself, and often one can find something quite unique.

    Sport

    Coming up for air takes on real meaning when the beauties of the Mediterranean can be explored by scuba diving and snorkelling; go boarding, jet-skiing, water-skiing or sailing over the waves, or get a bird’s eye view from a hang glider. Serve for an ace on one of the many tennis courts or putt for a birdie on the nearby championship golf course.

    Restaurants and Nightlife

    For fine dining, there is the unsurpassed Sophia restaurant and the Fleur de Sel terrace in the Kempinski Palace Portoroz; for a taste of local living we love the family-run seafood restaurants in atmospheric Piran. Around midnight the clubs come to life, and in the famous casino the roulette wheel spins until the early hours.
