At the Heart of Your Experience
The 61st Ljubljana Festival, the biggest and most important festival in Slovenia, will begin on 27 June at the picturesque Congress Square with a project that will unite different artists and art forms.
Appearing as soon as the next day will be the musical duo 2Cellos, currently the most popular and sought-after pair of musicians in the country. The other exceptional artists, who will make Ljubljana, according to the festival’s new slogan, “The Heart of Your Experience”, will include until 10 September the Béjart Ballet with four ballet pieces, the queen of flamenco María Pagés and extraordinary performers from London's West End with the musical Grease. Also on hand will be Russian choreographer Boris Eifman and his eponymous ballet ensemble, the St Petersburg's Boris Eifman State Ballet Theatre, which will present the ballet The Brothers Karamazov. Also performing will be one of the oldest symphonic orchestras in the world, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, with Maestro Riccardo Chailly. The Mariinsky Theatre of St Petersburg with Maestro Valery Gergiev will be on hand as well, putting on two of Wagner’s operas: The Rhine Gold and The Valkyr.
The programme of the 61st Ljubljana Festival pays tribute to the 200th anniversary of the birth of two musical giants: Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi. It will also put a focus on Russian culture, which will be presented by the St Petersburg's Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka Choir and violoncellist Alexander Rudin.
