Investing in the future of Namibian hospitality

“Education is more than a luxury; it is a responsibility that society owes to itself.”

 - Robin Cook

Thursday 18th of February 2010, concluded and sealed the fate for two Bachelor of Hospitality Management students, from the Polytechnic of Namibia Hotel School. After extensive one on one interviews with the selected candidates, Kempinski Mokuti Lodge Management came to a decision and presented the two bursaries set out for 2010, to the successful applicants.

The process started with the Hotel School advertising the opportunity and screening the applications. Open to all Namibian students from economically and socially disadvantaged groups, criterion included; the successful completion of the student’s first year and maintaining a minimum academic average of 65%. A short list of students who proved the most potential and who fit the prescribed criteria was forwarded to Kempinski Management. Interviews were conducted and the selected two students, were notified and handed their letters of confirmation at a seminar hosted by the Hotel School on Thursday 18th of February 2010.

The bursary includes tuition fees, registration costs as well as all books and study material needed. The candidates will also be given the opportunity to do their experiential training, during their final year, at Kempinski Mokuti Lodge. In addition, after graduation the company guarentees employment for the candidates, with a minimum working period of two and a half years at Kempinski Mokuti Lodge. Although the placements are primarily  only applicable at the Lodge, the possibilities are endless. This initiative was a first for Kempinski Mokuti Lodge and it sure won’t be the last.
