Rovinj Old Town

Rovinj

Rovinj was declared a cultural monument in 1963. Together with Poreč and Pula, this distinctive jewel of the Istrian coast illustrates the best example of local urban architecture.

A walk through the streets of Rovinj is one of the most romantic things Istria has to offer. The old town situated itself on a hilly little peninsula as a testimony of past times and great skills of local builders. Walking up the Grisia street and passing by numerous galleries and craft workshops, you'll reach the church St. Euphemia, the patron of Rovinj. The church was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The 60-meter high bell tower has a baroque statue of the saint in bronze. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view over tiled rooftops and the beautiful archipelago of Rovinj. Have a look at local harbors and numerous batana boats that are under protection of UNESCO. The old tradition of fishing is still preserved here. If you want to learn more about Rovinj and its people, we recommend a visit to the interesting and interactive "House of Batana" as well as the Town Museum.
