Global Hotel Alliance
17.5.2010

The hotel was opened May 7, 2009 after an arduous reconstruction and completion of this protected historical monument. It has once again become a luxurious Grand hotel, referring to its rich history, under the name of the oldest European hotel group – Kempinski.

During the introductory year the hotel accommodated more than 16 thousand adults and around 1700 children of different nationalities. The largest groups of guests are Slovaks and Czech who are followed by the other neighbor countries. Altogether the hotel welcomed 42 nationalities, among others also guests from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand or Vietnam.

Grand Hotel Kempinski offers among accommodation in 98 luxurious rooms with the views on the Tatra panorama also specialties of local and international cuisine. The kitchen prepared during the first year more than 400 kg of BIO beef filets, 90 kg of Wagyu-Kobe filets, 90 kg of fresh Brittany Lobster, 180 kg of Tiger prawns, 90 kg of the French Foie Gras, and specialties like crocodile, kangaroo, ostrich or  springbok meat.

The great food was accompanied by almost 700 bottles of Champagne, 5 thousand liters of wine and 120 thousand portions of coffee. The most expensive ordered beverages were Champagne Roederer Cristal for EUR 700, Mouton Rotschild wine for EUR 890 and Chateau Margaux for EUR 660. And the fact that people can spend hours at a beautiful setting having great meals and drinks was proven by the statistic of the longest lunch-dinner which took whole 13 hours.

Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras was selected because of its unique location to introduce the new Kempinski The Spa concept and also hosted the historically first Polo on Snow tournament in Slovakia. In February the hotel was awarded by the Top Trend as the Hotel of the year 2009 in Slovakia, later on it was nominated for the „hotel Oscars“ by World Travel Awards in the category „Slovakia’s Leading hotel” and the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller included the hotel in the Hot List 2010.
