The DOM is part of Hamburg’s tradition and guarantees adventure, fun, excitement and nostalgia. The name goes back to a group of merchants, craftsmen and jugglers who, following some disagreements, were granted the right in 1337 to seek shelter in the cathedral “Marien-Dom” whenever the weather was particulary bad. At the end of the 19th century, the fairgroup showmen and machine operators found their new “home” on Heiligengeistfeld, the venue of today’s DOM.

Today, the Hanseatic fair with its more than 1.5 million visitors has become the biggest harbour festival of the world. The birthday festivitites entail many water and air-based shows and activities, as well as live music, a funfair and a lot of entertainment.
