Top 5 things to see in and around Geneva before 2013 ends!

The end of the year is slowly but surely approaching. With just a few weeks left, our Concierge would like to share his ultimate list of things to see in the region. Whether you are from Geneva or just visiting, make the most of this special time of year.

1. L’Escalade Celebrations

This annual weekend festival celebrates the defeat of the attack on Geneva and is look back at history. The exhibition, musketeers, pikemen, horse parade and concerts, everything is happening in the old town of Geneva the upcoming weekend. The final procession includes nearly 800 members, and is the largest historical parade in Europe.

2. Christmas Markets in Lausanne

Checking out Lausanne’s Christmas markets, held at three old town squares, is a good reason to visit this beautiful city. As a part of festive celebrations the city also organises the Festival of Lights – a sure-fire way to upgrade your festive experience.

3. Christmas Markets in Montreux

People say this is the most famous Christmas market in Switzerland, and the number of yearly visitors (almost 500,000) confirms the popularity of the event. The market offers many activities for kids and adults, including an authentic Christmas village and lakeside markets, as well as a story festival within the walls of the legendary Château de Chillon. Sounds magical.

4. Cirque Éloize

Cirque Éloize, in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, is back in the city. Enjoy the Canadian acrobatic dance troupe’s performances at Théâtre du Léman from December 26th until January 5th. This show is a festive season highlight that should not be missed.

5. Coupe de Noël

A traditional competition in freezing waters of Lac Leman which takes place at Jardin Anglais on Sunday, December 15th from 9 am is mainly about having fun. Do you have courage to participate? Well, we think that it is safer and more fun to enjoy watching participants in their crazy costumes with your coat and gloves on.

Whether you have chance to check some or all of these seasonal highlights, we hope you will like them. In addition, if it is too cold outside, you are welcome to join us at FloorTwo Lounge and relax in the cosy environment while enjoying a cup of hot coffee, tea or delicious hot chocolate.

Enjoy!
