A Festive Season Tradition Since 2006
It’s that time of the year again! Not only to celebrate the festive season, but best of all our renowned Stollen Charity Cake Sale is back and it is happening on December 7th at Mall of The Emirates.
The tradition of the annual Stollen Charity Cake Sale started in 2006 as a way to celebrate the charitable spirit of the Festive season through a tradition that draws on Kempinski’s European roots – using Stollen, a German Christmas cake that is a popular festive treat.
The Stollen Charity Cake Sale is organized in partnership with the Mall of the Emirates, and all of the funds raised are donated to the Dubai Centre for Special Needs – a charitable non-profit organisation that works hard towards providing a brighter future to children with special needs. Since its start, the Stollen Charity Cake Sale has grown in size and popularity. The event represents a true labour of love as all of the Kempinski and Mall of the Emirates staff that participates voluntarily. This is a tradition, which we hope to keep going for many years to come.
During our first event in 2006 the Stollen cake was 250 metres. Every year our Executive Chef and his team challenge themselves by increasing the length of the cake. A 300 metres long cake was baked in 2007, in 2008 the cake was a 350 metres creation and in 2009 it was 355 metres and an impressive 360 metres of Stollen was baked in 2010. In 2011 the length went up to 480 metres and last year, hotel volunteers sold 570 metres of Stollen.
This year the challenge is to sell all 600 metres of the delicious cake! And we really look forward to it!!
To create this enormous Stollen cake, more than 2,210 eggs, 600 kilograms of flour, 278 kilograms of raisins and 55 kilograms of marzipan will be used for this mouth-watering delicacy. Moreover, 120 kilograms of lemons and 131 kilograms of oranges will be zested, giving a burst of citrus flavour. These are some serious numbers of ingredients right there!
So come down to Mall of The Emirates on December 7th, starting from 10 am, and join us for the Stollen Charity Cake Sale. The freshly baked Stollen will be sold for AED 100 per loaf, a half loaf is priced at AED 50 or buy a slice, at just AED 5 each.
Hope you will join us for this noble cause! See you all there!
