Get the Glow

We all love to go to spas and beauty salons for some well deserved pampering, however we are not able to do it all the time due to different reasons, so it is good to have a couple of other options on hand. Home-made skin care is extremely easy to make and will leave your skin feeling refreshed and revived and you don’t even need to step out of the luxury of your own home.  We have listed a couple of Ayurveda-inspired recipes below and would recommend making it part of your daily routine.

 1.   Yoghurt and honey cleanser

Ingredients: 4 tbsp plain yoghurt, 2 tbsp honey, 3 tbsp lime juice.

Mix all the ingredients. Add a little cornstarch if you think the paste needs thickening. Apply on your face and massage for 2-3 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

2.  Natural scrub - Oatmeal exfoliating scrub

Ingredients: 1 tbsp fine oatmeal, milk

Mix the ingredients in enough water to make a thick paste. Rub over face for 2-3 minutes, rinse and pat dry. It’s suitable for all skin types.


3. Yoghurt and gram flour scrub

Ingredients: 1 tbsp flour, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 2-3 mint leaves, low fat yoghurt and a piece of grated carrot.

Mix all of the ingredients to form a paste and apply on your face. Rub in round motions to clean the deep-rooted impurities.

4. Face packs

Basan and Turmeric with milk or honey is the most common homemade Ayurvedic face pack. Use this at least once a week, for 10-15 minutes or until it gets dried, to get bright and glowing complexion.

Fruit Face Packs:  At least once a week, treat yourself to a fruit or vegetable mask appropriate for your skin type. Cucumbers, avocados, apricots and papayas lend themselves well to homemade masks. Purée them and blend with some yogurt, honey, lemon juice (for oily skin) or rosewater (for dry skin). Apply evenly to the face and wash it off after 15-20 minutes with lukewarm water. Sandalwood paste can be used for a cooling, relaxing effect.

Eyes and feet should also be given extra care every day. Splash lots of cool water on your eyes. Soak some cotton pads in cool water or rose water and place them over closed eyes for 10 minutes. Give your feet a gentle massage with lavender or sandalwood oil before you go to sleep.
