Flower Power

Flower Power

Having beautiful floral arrangements around the house is one of the best little luxuries in life. While they keep the house inviting and lively, it’s also making your home colourful and cosy. Arranging a bouquet of flowers doesn’t always come easy though; you need to consider the colours, size and types of flowers to make sure they match with the theme and mood of the area/room and the vases you have at home.

Our florist, Asanka Herath will share with you some tips on how to make your own beautiful floral arrangement. First, explore some of the big grocery stores in town to find fresh flowers, or check out some of the wholesale or retail flower shops around Dubai for more variety. There are some real flower treasures at great prices to be found.

Firstly, to have a long lasting floral arrangement, try not to buy flowers that are already fully bloomed.

Secondly, colours and sizes are really important elements and therefore if you are having difficulties deciding what colour or type of flowers to take, a good trick is to go with the same shade of colours or even complimentary colours. Having different types of flowers in one vase can create really nice arrangements.

Thirdly, choose your vases wisely! For a coffee table, a small square or round vase will be perfect for the space. A tall long arrangement of sunflowers will look great in a foyer area for example. If you are having trouble with keeping the flowers in the right position, floral foam is your best friend at this point (don’t forget to sweat them before you make those arrangements).

You can also get creative with your choice of vases; coffee tints and unusual bottles or glasses can look amazing. Some extra decoration, such as tall grasses, long stems and natural stones can be used to add that dramatic touch.

Last but not least, don’t be afraid to be daring on your floral arrangements. Have fun and share your most daring creations!
