A sneak preview of Kobe Bryant’s visit to the UAE this week!
Some people said that you must avoid sugars, sweets or chocolate, reducing carbohydrates and protein is the best diet... It’s not 100% true. In fact, you still can enjoy your favourite chocolates and cakes as long as you combine it with some exercise. Don’t forget to limit your sweetened drinks consumption too; and yes carbohydrates have a big impact on your blood sugar level but it’s not necessary to avoid them. Instead you can focus on whole grain carbs. Studies have also shown that eating too much proteins (especially coming from the meat, fish and animal products) can be a main factor of diabetes.
Our body needs proteins, carbohydrates and fats to function properly. As long as you plan a balanced diet and combined them with some exercises, you’ll do just fine.
To raise awareness for diabetes across the country, the Government of the United Arab Emirates is hosting an action packed weekend for which one of the world’s top athletes, the renowned basketball player Kobe Bryant, has been invited to help spread the message.
The Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend will be held on 26th and 27th of September. The event kicks off with a workshop for a select group of children in Abu Dhabi on September 26th and is followed by a celebrity basketball game in Dubai on September 27th where LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant will coach ‘Team Black Mamba’. The team will play against the Real Madrid basketball legends at the American University of Dubai (AUD).
Diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases in the world and according to the International Diabetes Federation, 18,9% of people in the UAE suffer from the disease. 1 in 2 people with diabetes are unaware they have it. Unfortunately, there are only a few symptoms associated with diabetes so it is important to get tested before it progresses, in order to begin taking the proper steps to lead a long, happy life. What’s great to hear is that in the most cases diabetes is manageable and even preventable by adjusting your lifestyle ensuring you have a balanced diet and sufficient exercise. We look forward having this fantastic weekend happening in the UAE and are happy to see celebrities supporting this great cause. Stay healthy!
