Federweisser Festival 2014
When the winegrowers break out their vintages at the beginning of September, the season of the popular Federweisser also starts at Schloss Wackerbarth. The Federweisser, also called new wine, is an unfiltered must which is won from white grapes whose alcoholic fermentation has already begun. Therefore, it tastes very sparkling and is reminiscent of a sweet sparkling wine or grape lemonade.
Walk by the gardens and across the vineyards accompanied by elegant live music on the terraces. Held every hour on both 6 and 7 September, guided tours detail how Federweisser is manufactured and are framed by a glass of Federweisser and a wine tasting of two wines at 0.05 L (1.7 oz).
Another highlight offered on Saturday evening at 8pm is the Sandstein and Musik Festival. The rousing swing of Götz Bergmann and his gentlemen, as well as the French chansons of Edith Piaf to Jaques Brel, sung by Kaja Sesterhenn, invite you to stay and dance.
In addition, Schloss Wackerbarth invites you to Open Monument Day on Sunday. Every hour there are historical guided tours, including wine tasting of three wines in the Restaurant Belvedere.
The entry to the Federweisser Festival is free. Shuttle buses turn between Radebeul and the vineyard.
