Dujiangyan Irrigation Project

Built in 256 BC under the leadership of Libing, the magistrate of the Shu Prefecture of the Qin State, Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a masterpiece of the Chinese nation.

As a damless irrigation system, it consists of three major parts, Fish Mouth Leeve, Flying Sand Weir and Bottle-Neck Channel. Interacted with each other, the three parts of this project have effectively solved the problems or irrigation, flood discharge, and sands drainage by utilizing the landform of mountain-pass and the regularity of water flow in a river bend which formed an automatic irrigation system. This project turned the Chengdu Plain into the Land of Abundance, and directly promoted the unification of Qin Dynasty,, the first centralized dynasty in Chinese history.
