     Gestures of Light highlights his subtle synthesis of these two contrasting sources in an inspired fusion of tradition with modernity. The exhibition comprises a selection that juxtaposes the signature calligraphic works, for which Massoudy is best known, with a seldom-exhibited set of paintings on canvas.
    The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue that provide insights into the development of Massoudy’s oeuvre, from his earliest days in Iraq to the present, and includes hitherto unpublished writings, by the artist, that will further elucidate the nature of both traditional and contemporary Arabic calligraphy as the pre-eminent form of artistic expression in the Arab world.
    Massoudy’s art perfectly illustrates how oriental and occidental styles unite in the pursuit of a higher aesthetic harmony. The renowned artist-calligrapher will also conduct guided tours and an educational workshop. The exhibition continues until 15 April.

    For an audacious journey that testifies to the unifying power of music.
    Shamma has achieved universal recognition for his command of the oud. He also established a unique playing method and is the founder of Beit Al Oud Al Arabi music academy. Joining him onstage is the award-winning guitarist Niño Josele, an acclaimed exponent of the New Flamenco style and a celebrated recording artist in his home country of Spain. Drummer Billy Cobham is a tireless musical explorer, whose strong influence on the course of jazz and jazz-fusion led to collaborations with artists ranging from John Scofield and Jack Bruce to George Benson and the Grateful Dead. US-born. Miles Jay combines his roots in classical music and jazz with the sounds of the Arab world, and has worked with such artists as Youssou N'Dour, Ziad Rahbani, Fathy Salama, and The Cairo Symphony Orchestra, among others. Vasilis Saleas is Greece’s foremost clarinetist and has worked with the Vangelis since the early 1990s, alongside pursuing a solo recording career. Colombian composer and musician Edmar Castaneda has taken the world by storm with his virtuosic mastery of the harp, collaborating with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, John Scofield, and Chico O’Farrill. The critically acclaimed Italian pianist Cesare Picco transcends the genres of music. Also renowned for his musical collaborations with Arena di Verona and Andrea Bocelli, he has worked with Michael Buble, Al Jarreau, and Simply Red, to name but a few.

    It has astonished audiences and dazzled critics alike. The award-winning choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui joins forces with the Turner Prize-winning artist Antony Gormley and 17 Monks from the legendary Shaolin Temple in China.
    This is a performance that weaves the spiritual and physical boundaries of modern dance with the intensity and energy of martial arts. The performance will be accompanied by live music by Polish composer Szymon Brzóska.
    Co-produced with Athens Festival, Festival de Barcelona Grec, Grand Theatre de Luxembourg, La Monnaie Brussels, Festival d’Avignon, Fondazione Musica per Roma and Shaolin Cultural Communications Company.

    In a series of concerts that explore his legacy not only to the Arab world but also to Europe. Enjoy the music of Anwar Abudragh & Maqamat from Iraq, Göksel Baktagir from Turkey, and Faisal Al Sari from the UAE in three intimate concerts.
     
    Faisal Al Sari represents the new generation of UAE artists. Recipient of the 2009 Abu Dhabi Festival Award and ADMAF Creativity Award, he transcends East and West through an innovative repertoire combining classical and jazz genres with the sounds of Emirati heritage. Having first picked up the instrument in 1986, Al Sari graduated from Beit Al Oud Al Arabi in Abu Dhabi in 2011. As a soloist, researcher and composer, he also teaches others to follow his lead.

     Accompanying Semperoper Ballet is the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hanover, widely regarded as one of the most versatile orchestras in Germany
    La Bayadère is a milestone of classical ballet. Originally staged by the choreographer Marius Petipa, Aaron S. Watkins' version for Semperoper Ballet, for which conductor David Coleman rearranged the music of Ludwig Minkus, is presented in just two acts.

    Set in ancient India, this typically romantic story tells of love, jealousy, intrigue, murder and revenge between Nikiya, a temple dancer; her rival, the Rajah’s daughter Hamsatti; and Solor, a noble warrior passionately loved by both women. This exotic tale features ‘The Kingdom of the Shades’ - one of ballet’s most famous scenes.
